This is the youngest program being implemented by ACEM. Nutrition program was initiated in 2016 after the July 2016 fighting in that erupted in the greater equatorial region leading to displacement of population, loss of livelihoods and destruction of markets which affected the overall nutrition situation of the vulnerable populations (children, pregnant and lactating women and the elderly) in mundri east and mundri west counties. ACEM is responding to the nutrition needs in Mundri east and Mundri west counties through treatment of severe and moderate acute malnutrition among the under 5 years through the Community management of moderate and acute malnutrition (CMAM) project. We have also provided nutrition therapy to pregnant and lactating mothers who are malnourished and need support to bring forth healthy children.
Since December 2016 to May 2017 ACEM has been able to admit and treat over 1200 cases of severe acute malnutrition without complications (SAM) and 3350 cases of moderate acute malnutrition (MAM) among children under 5 years. A total of 2130 pregnant and lactating women have also received treatment for malnutrition.
ACEM continues to support vulnerable communities affected by conflict in south Sudan through provision of life saving therapeutic nutrition services as well as sustainable preventative Maternal Infant and Young child nutrition package.
